Can You Help?

Here are some organisations in the Dales that really need some help like sharing posts on social media, help raising funds for a charity task, donating prizes for an event and much more besides.

 

The MayFest committee are inviting local young people to apply for the roles of MayFest Queen, MayFest King, Flower Girl, Knight or Jester. Girls and boys aged between nine and 13 are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must live in the post code areas DL9, DL10 or DL11.

To be considered, applicants should complete an application explaining which role they would like to be considered for, a little about themselves, and what being chosen would mean to them. Judges would also like to hear about applicants’ interests and hobbies.

Candidates should supply their date of birth, address and phone number - landline and mobile if possible, along with an email address.

The chosen candidate must be available throughout the MayFest weekend Saturday 2nd - Monday 4th May and in particular on the Saturday morning when the Coronation ceremony in the castle take place. They may also be required to join the Richmond Meet procession on Bank Holiday Monday 25th May.

Applications must be submitted no later than Monday 16th February with those shortlisted invited for a very informal interview - Saturday morning 7th March.

There is no need to dress for the part for the interviews as costumes will be provided for the MayFest weekend.

SELFA Children's Charity based in Skipton are looking for donations of play resources to help support their Stay & Play SEND sessions.

Skipton Morrisons are helping local resident Helen Allen with her Kindness Campaign by collecting donations of any unwanted gifts for her fundraising quiz event taking place on Saturday March 21st at the Black Horse, Skipton.

All funds raised are going towards supporting the Breast Cancer Unit, the Hope for Tomorrow bus and the Haematology and Oncology Day Unit all of which are based at Airedale Hospital NHSFT.

Any donations you have can be placed in the trolley near the community notice board in store.

The Yoredale Strummers are a long established ukulele band who meet for a couple of hours every Tuesday at 7pm at Wensley Village Hall.

Members pay £10 a month to cover the coat of hall hire, tea and biscuits.

They play for pleasure and practise songs from their extensive catalogue of 150 songs which includes an eclectic mix of folk and pop and plenty of 60's. You don't need to be able to read music as the chords are written in to the lyrics, members also suggest new songs to add to the catalogue.

The strummers play two or three fundraising gigs a year raising money towards Yorkshire Air Ambulance and supporting local events and venues.

Giggleswick & Settle Brass Band are a local, friendly non-contesting brass band who are looking to welcome new members for 2026.

They have spaces for front or back row cornet, horns and percussion.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm with their training band at 6.45pm.

Bentham Pet Rescue have a number of young feral cats that are in need of new homes urgently. The cats are idea for farm and stables owners.

The cats have been neutered but you must be able to keep them contained for at least a month in a safe and warm space so that they learn where home is. They will also need support feeding at least twice a day.

Bentham Older people Together Lunch Club are desperately seeking volunteers to help their bus users get to the mini golf whilst travelling on their minibus.

This is based on a rota of approximately every 5 weeks with 1.5 hours in a morning and 1 hour in the afternoon.

Craven Wildlife Rescue have nearly 70 hedgehogs in their care and are running really low on both dry and wet food.

Kitten biscuits, including supermarket's own brand are perfect along with any wet cat or dog food.

Please help to fill the bellies of these prickly creatures by dropping off any donations at the in-rescue centre, Horton in Ribblesdale.

Can you help Chloe Dodwell raise £500 to fund Ingleton's 1940s weekend?

The event is a not-for-profit community event run by a small team of dedicated volunteers who are based in Ingleton.

The popular event which is run every year benefits the local community greatly and helps to support the local economy, businesses and community facilities.

As costs are rising and the popularity of the event growing, they are constantly having to chase funds and hold fundraising events.

Askrigg Rope Makers were formed in 2022 as Caroline the owner is so passionate about the craft after learning her skills at Outhwaites, a former company based in the Dales town of Hawes.

Caroline is trying hard to preserve the tradition and was the only female in the Northeast to make rope in the traditional way on such a commercial scale and would love to get the message out to the Dales that the ropemaking tradition is still being kept alive through her passion and dedication.
